Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 7! SCRC will be hosting the Smelter City Scamper in Anaconda, Montana! The Scamper is a runner's dream, regardless of the distance one chooses to run. It consists of a 5K, a 10K and a half marathon that are made for setting PRs and soaking in stunning mountain views.
Every runner will start and end at the Kennedy Commons, run through Anaconda's historic neighborhoods, and weave through the overwhelmingly green and tree-lined Washoe Park. Those who run the 10k will also get to experience Anaconda's Lorry Thomas Urban Wildlife Area; and Half Marathoners will complete the West Valley Loop that highlights views of our local 10,000+ foot peak, Mt. Haggin.
All three courses are flat, fast, and gorgeous!
In addition to the three races mentioned above, the Scamper will also offer a kid's fun run that will have free admission.
The Scamper is being hosted by Smelter City Recreation Complex (SCRC). Our mission is to promote health and wellness within our community and it is important to SCRC that the Scamper provides an opportunity for every type of runner to participate.
The one block fun run has been designed for our youth and novice runners. Children ages 8 and under are welcome and encouraged to participate. This run will occur at the end of the Scamper to ensure everyone is able to cheer on our "Littles" as they sprint 100 yards to the finish line. It is free to sign up for the one block sprint; however registration is required to assist the Scamper team in prepping for the event, and to ensure that every child receives a race bib!
The Smelter City Scamper will follow the below timeline:
7:30 am - Half marathon start time
8:30 am - 5K and 10K start time
10 am - 1 block start time
11 am - BBQ & Brewfest
Say what? BBQ & Brewfest? Yes, it is true. The Scamper will not only be the perfect day for a run, but it will also be the perfect day for a festival. Smeltermen's Day is a weekend-long festival that celebrates Anaconda's smelter stack history and the people that created our beautiful town. There will be many events occurring throughout the weekend including an art walk, live music, tours of the smelter, and the BBQ & Brewfest that will be set up in the Kennedy Commons alongside our finish line. The BBQ and Brewfest is hosted by the Anaconda Chamber of Commerce who invites all runners to replenish their calories immediately following the run with fresh-off-the-grill bbq and locally produced beer.
It is going to be a great day for a run and a festival. In registering for the Scamper you can feel good knowing that your participation in supporting a meaningful cause. All proceeds from the Scamper will go directly toward funding the development of the future Smelter City Recreation Complex.
