Details for the 2022 Smelter City Scamper

Updated: Aug 4, 2022

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to run the Scamper! (If you have yet to do so, it is not too late). We are narrowing in on race day and the Smelter City Recreation Complex team is excited to welcome you! Here are a few important details that will ensure you have a successful run and experience.

REGISTRATION:

All participants are required to pre-register for the Scamper. For insurance purposes, this is very important. This includes the 8 and under children running in the Kinder Sprint that has free admission. To register, click here.

DOGS:

We love dogs; however they are not allowed to run the Scamper for insurance purposes. They are allowed to be in the cheering section. If you bring a dog to the start line, you will be asked to find a place for him/her during the race. If you are traveling to Anaconda for the Scamper with a pet, we suggest contacting Logan's Run Pet Boarding to check on race day availability.

PACKET PICK-UP:

All participants are encouraged to pick up their packets the day before the run. Packets will include: free Scamper socks, your race bib with timing chip, sunglasses, koozies, discount coupons to local businesses, sunscreen, running gels, fizz packets, and more! 8 and under children are able to participate in the kid run free of charge if they have registered in advance. They will also receive a packet; however theirs will not include socks, unless it was added on in their registration check-out process. 8 and under children will all receive a race bib, but it will not include a timing chip.

Packet pick-ups will occur:

Friday, August 5 from 4pm - 7pm at Pintler's Portal Hostel

218 W Park St, Anaconda MT 59711

Saturday August 6 from 6:30am - 10am at the start line.

3rd & Main street, Anaconda MT 59711

RACE ROUTES:

Please review the below race routes prior to race day.

The half marathon, 5k, and kinder sprint courses are the same as they were in the 2021 Scamper. There has been a slight adjustment to our 10K route. It follows the same course but it is being run in the opposite direction. All 10Kers will turn left when they first hit Pennsylvania from Sycamore and follow the west-bound trails to Lorry Thomas Wildlife Area, connect on Cable Road, and then run east toward Washoe Park.

There will be excellent signage and volunteers directing runners. Each race will have a volunteer on bicycle leading the front runner to ensure there is no course confusion. And there will be traffic controllers at intersections. Water/aid stations will be placed every two miles along each race route.

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY:

Please take many photos and videos on race day! We would love to see them. If you share them to social media, use the above hashtag so that they are searchable! You can also email them to info@smeltercityrc.org.

There will be a professional videographer on site to record for the fun event. There will also be a photographer documenting the entire Smeltermen's Day Festival who will be present for the Scamper. All professional videos and photos captured at the Scamper will be shared following the event via email. See our 2021 Scamper highlight video here.

RESTROOMS:

There will be porta potties placed near the start/finish line. There are also public restrooms available in 2 locations within Washoe Park which all courses pass by. The first location is off of Pennsylvania Ave, just west of the tennis courts and children's playground. The second location is off of Washoe Park Rd, just west of the sand volleyball courts.

LODGING OPTIONS:

Pintler's Portal Hostel / 5518 Designs (walkable to start line)

Marcus Daly Motel (walkable to start line)

Hickory House Inn (walkable to start line)

PARKING:

There will not be parking immediately surrounding the Kennedy Commons. This will be used for vendors and some of the streets will be closed for the race and other festivities. A large parking area should be available behind the Elks Lodge (116 E. 3rd Street), and on the neighboring streets.

BREWFEST:

Immediately following the race there will be a Brewfest occurring in the Kennedy Commons - brought to you by Discover Anaconda. Breweries from across the state will be pouring beer! Food trucks and live music from 11am - 3pm.

OTHER SMELTERMEN'S DAY FESTIVITIES:

Don't forget that the Scamper is one small piece of a big weekend! Smeltermen's Day weekend includes all of the events! Read more here.
